Happy May Day
May 1st is a day on which people may have a holiday from work‚ otherwise known as International Workers' Day or Labour Day‚ celebrated in many countries in a variety of ways․
Labour Day or International Workers' Day is a global holiday celebrated in honor of the dedication‚ sacrifice and pride of workers around the world․ The day is celebrated on 1 May in most countries to honor the work and contributions of those who take part in their nation's economic or industrial development․
Every worker in factories‚ offices‚ on farms and fields‚ in mines and plantations‚ and in all other places of work‚ contributes to the national development of the country․ Labour Day is a day set aside to honor all those workers who sacrificed themselves through the years for the rights they possess now․ These include decent pay‚ good working conditions‚ and reasonable hours․
Labour Day was started during the last quarter of the 19th century, when workers generally worked 10–12 hours daily, under unsafe conditions, and earned little money for doing so. Many workers in cities such as Chicago started to organize protests given their poor treatment. On May 1, 1886, workers from Chicago and other cities had protested in favor of the right for an 8-hour work day. Currently, Labour Day is celebrated all over the world and honors the work force for their contributions to society. Labour Day brings to everyone’s attention, the rights of workers, laws concerning work, safety in the work place and fair working conditions. Labour Day recognizes everyone – no matter who you are or how wealthy you are – for their contributions to the workforce in their respective areas of Employment. All workers and their respective occupations, whether in construction, agriculture, education, healthcare or technology are important to society and the growth of society. Why Labour Day is significant? Labour Day is important because it is a day to remind the citizens of a country of their many contributions through Labour and how a country is dependent on their citizens’ Labour to develop. Labour Day is the day when people can understand the rights of workers (fair wages, safe working conditions, respect for all occupations) and how all the different occupations that people work at are very important to our country’s development. Without the efforts of all the workers, we would not be able to enjoy the rights we have today.

In the United States and Canada, however, Labour Day falls in September, not on May 1st.
Ways To Celebrate Labour Day In Different Parts Of The Globe:
Celebrating labour day globally is very different depending on where you live. The labour day celebration may simply provide you with a day off but for many places there are many different ways to have a big celebration. For example, in China, they have one of the biggest holidays, the national golden week vacation, which includes labour day; for Cubans(the workers’ day) they also have many celebrations with parades, many events and other activities for representatives of their various unions. Celebrating labour day should be an event not only to show respect for workers, but also to show appreciation to workers who work hard everyday, and to strengthen, build strong, committed and united workers throughout the world. Labour Days offer everyone a chance to show their gratitude to their colleagues and employees who help keep the world operating normally — so that through our collective expression of gratitude and appreciation for employees — we create a stronger, more peaceful, better- functioning society.
